Pop-up food pantry is Dec. 10 in Wooster
The Wayne County Health Department, in collaboration with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, will host its next monthly pop-up food pantry on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the health department offices at 244 W. South St. in Wooster.
Individuals and families can receive food if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($30,120 per year for individuals and adding $10,760 per year for each additional family member). For example, a family of four whose annual household income is $62,400 or less would be eligible. Starting with this pantry, as the colder weather arrives, it will be drive-thru, so there will be no need to get out of your vehicles. Previous pantries were market style, and the plan is to resume these in the spring.
“Over the past six months of hosting these food pantries, we have seen a steady increase in the number of families that come and get food. We served 117 families last month,” Wayne County Health Commissioner Nick Cascarelli said. “The need is here, and we will continue our partnership with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to serve Wayne County residents in need.”
The Wayne County Health Department also is looking for volunteers to help with the pantries. Volunteers would need to be able to be there an hour before and a half-hour after the food pantry in addition to the actual pantry itself.
