Public input sought for library redesign in Dover
Today the designated area for teens while filled with natural light, is too small and lacks the resources needed for many of the programs geared toward young adults that are hosted by the library.
On Thursday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m., community teens and their parents are invited to take part in a conversation with the Dover Public Library regarding the new teen room in the library’s remodel plan. Pizza and pop will be served. Registration is encouraged but not required. Interested patrons can call teen/outreach services manager Liz Strauss at 330-343-6123.
The Dover Public Library’s remodel project has been in the works since 2014. As the Check Out Your Future Capital Campaign reaches its final stages, patrons can expect work to begin on the renovated library in August. The remodel will update the adult, technology and teen departments. Features of the remodel will include a unified service desk, a new board room in the basement and updated wiring. The current technology room will become a new teen room.
The Dover Public Library’s new teen room will not only be a place for the YA Collection, but also it will be a space for teens to study, collaborate, relax and create. The library is seeking teen and parent input to help meet specific needs of the community.
“We want to create a space that will be inviting and inspiring to teens,” Strauss said. “Who better to ask what would fit the bill than teens themselves?”
“This is going to be a teen space,” director Jim Gill said. “We want the teens to take ownership of it, to be proud of it and to have their ideas for it be reflected as much as possible in the final design.”
