The Run for Home Road Runners Club will present a check for $15,000 to Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio, the proceeds from the 2018 Union Hospital Run for Home Community Fitness Festival that was held in April.

In 11 years the Union Hospital Run for Home has raised $209,000 to Habitat for Humanity.

“We want to thank all our sponsors, participants, volunteers and local organizations that contributed to the success of this year’s event,” Run for Home Road Runners Club President Matt Ritzert said.

The $15,000 contribution includes more than 50 donations that participants contributed directly to Habitat when they registered for the Run for Home.

“We know Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio is working on several home-construction projects in the county, and we’re happy to be a part of that effort,” Ritzert said. “We’re proud to support Habitat’s mission to provide affordable housing, and we appreciate the Habitat volunteers and homeowners who help make the Run for Home a success."

Sponsors for the 2018 Run for Home included Union Hospital, Allied Machine and Engineering, and Route 250 Health and Performance.

Premier sponsors were the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union, Second Sole Shoes and Apparel in Canton, Tuscarawas County Dairy Farmers, Hitchcock Sound Co., Heiwa Center for Holistic Health and Wellness, Domino’s Pizza, Warther Woodworking, Lauren International, Miller and Company Portable Toilets, Vertical Runner, McDonald's, Next Level Sports and Spine, Dennison Yard Italian Tavern, nuCamp RV, and Smith Ambulance.

Supporting sponsors were Dr. Stephen Sabo, Boltaron, First National Bank of Dennison, Dover Chemical, Solid Rock Photos, Pace-Sankar Landscaping, Henry Heating and Cooling, Aleris, the Bell Stores, and Baerlocher USA.

“We appreciate and value the support of our sponsors. Tremendous sponsorship support and the work of hundreds of volunteers create a special experience for the people who walk and run in Run for Home events,” Ritzert said.

Nearly 1,000 people registered to participate in the 2018 Run for Home events, ranging from the half-marathon road race to a kids’ run inside Tuscora Park. The Run for Home Community Fitness Festival is a two-day event consisting of six running and walking events and a health and fitness fair. Planning is now underway for the 2019 Run for Home to be held April 6 and 7.

“We’re looking forward to next year and have already starting talking about ways to create a great experience for the participants while generating funds for Habitat. We’re always looking for ways to make improvements, promote fitness and encourage community involvement,” Ritzert said.
