Clarence A. “Dutch” Jacobs

                        
Clarence A. “Dutch” Jacobs, 97, of Baltic died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Union Hospital in Dover. He was born Feb. 6, 1917 in Dresden to the late Samuel and Pauline (Lower) Jacobs. He was the owner and operator of Jacobs Auto Service in Baltic for 40 years and then worked for the Gradall Co. in New Philadelphia until his retirement. Dutch was an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the Baltic American Legion and the Zion United Church of Christ in Baltic. He loved history and archeology and was one of the founding members of the Tuscarawas County Archeology Society. He was married Sept. 26, 1936 to the former Betty J. Fair and she died Nov. 8, 2006. He is survived by his children, Errol L. (Alice) Jacobs of Carrollton, Mitchel F. (Renee) Jacobs of Newark and Jody (John) Brucia of Marysville; daughter-in-law, Vita Kaye Jacobs of Jeromesville; grandchildren, Barry Jacobs, Kelley Jacobs and Taylor Elizabeth Jacobs; and great-granddaughter, Samantha Jacobs. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Samuel W. Jacobs and siblings, Harold, Irene and Arthur. Services will be held Tuesday, March 11 at 11 a.m. at the Zion United Church of Christ in Baltic with Pastor Jim Henniger officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Baltic. Friends may call Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to services. The American Legion will conduct Military graveside honors.
