Josephine T. Fuhrer, 92, of New Philadelphia, died Feb. 18, 2010, at New Dawn Health Care Center, Dover. Born March 17, 1917, in Dover, Josephine was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose Tristano. A 1936 graduate of Dover High School, she retired from Haman’s Tin Shop, where she worked as an office manager for many years. Josephine will be remembered as a hard worker, one who kept her home in spot-free condition while she and her husband operated New Philadelphia’s most widely-known vacuum sweeper repair shop from their residence. She always had warm greetings and a kind word to share with customers as they entered the shop. Her memberships include Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a former choir member, and the Martin Luther Sunday school class. Surviving are her husband, Robert D. Fuhrer, whom she married in 1943; son, Gregory Allen (Cheryl) Fuhrer of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Gregory II (Eryn) Fuhrer, Marisa (Tom) Zink, Andrea (Brandon) Bergum, and Douglas Fuhrer; seven great-grandchildren, Antonette and Zachary Fuhrer, Alexandra, Josephine, and Vivian Zink, and Nicholas and Christopher Bergum; sisters, Shirley Contini and Betty Tristano; brothers, Louis, Dave, Richard, and Ernest Tristano, all of Dover, and Jim Tristano of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Smith, Margaret Torch, and Mary Fabiano; and brothers, Frank, Ben, and John Tristano. Services were held Feb. 19, 2010, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Steven Patrick officiating. Interment was in East Avenue Cemetery.
