Roy Allen Ramsier


Roy Allen Ramsier, age 91 of Rittman, died Thursday, June 27, 2019, at his home in Rittman, encircled by his family, following a period of declining health.

Roy was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Smithville to the late Lester and Gladys (Slater) Ramsier and graduated from Sterling High School in 1945. He married Phyllis J. Haldiman on July 2, 1949, in Wadsworth.

Roy worked in the printing department for Ohio Boxboard (PCA) in Rittman for 44 years, retiring in 1992. During this time he also owned Ramsier Small Motor Repair and his own after-hours delivery service. In his retirement he ran R & J Woodwrights with his son-in-law, Joe.

Roy was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Seville, where he mowed the lawn for 30 years, and the Rittman Historical Society, where he helped with the upkeep of the Knupp Church in Rittman and the remodel of the Gish Home.

Roy is survived by his wife of 70 years, Phyllis Haldiman Ramsier; children, Karen (Bill) Coffeen, Allen (Yvette Meltzer) Ramsier and Bonnie (Joe Bondra) Ramsier; grandchildren, Jeremy (Glee) and Michael (Dawn) Coffeen, Kavanah (Derek) Anderson, and Justin (Kari) Cotton and Tessa (Matt) Stanford; great-grandchildren, Katie and Caroline Coffeen, Asa Anderson, Mackenzie Williams, Grady, Kaleigh, Brinn Leigh and Elleigh Cotton, and Evelina Stanford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Gladys Slater Ramsier; his brothers, Gary (Marilyn), Carl (Arlene) and Larry; and sister, Shirley.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9282 Acme Road, Seville, with Pastor Thomas Henderson officiating. Burial will take place at Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery in Seville.

Friends may call on Sunday at the church from 1-3 p.m., prior to the service.
