William Barbee obituary

                        
William E. Barbee, 78, of Dennison, died Feb. 19, 2010, at Twin City Hospital, Dennison, following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 24, 1931, in Mt. Morris, Mich., William was a son of the late Harold and Viva Barbee. A longtime resident of Tuscarawas County, he was a 1950 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a member of Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a retired truck driver who had also worked for Greer Steel for many years. He was a member of the Hey Jack Sportsman’s Club, enjoyed fishing, and loved the pugs that he raised. Surviving are his wife, Veronica L. Barbee, whom he married in 1992; daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) Spencer of Uhrichsville and Kathleen Smith of Baltic; sons, Zachary Downing (fiancee, Samantha) of Uhrichsville, Cory Downing (companion, Danielle) of the home, and Joseph (Debbie) Mazzoleni of Port Washington; five grandchildren, Travis, Taylor, and Tyler Mazzoleni, Samuel Barker, and Madison Downing; a stepgrandson, Brady; a great-granddaughter; brothers, Jack Barbee, Clyde (Sandy) Barbee, and Robert (Judy) Barbee; sister, Phyllis (John) Liberatore; his father- and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Vickers; close friend, Howard Holt of the home; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Barbee; son, Christopher Downing; brothers, Mike and Harold Barbee; and a dear friend, Clyde Schwartz. According to Bill’s wishes, he has been cremated without public visitation. Memorial services will be held Feb. 27, 2010, from 4-8 p.m., at the Dennison Eagles. Memorial donations may be made to Bill’s family in care of R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home to help defray the cost of his final expenses.
