Allie Leiendecker, a freshman at Louisiana Tech and a 2019 Wooster High grad, was named Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year for women’s bowling.

Allie Leiendecker, a 2019 graduate of Wooster High School, was named the Southland Newcomer of the Year after a stellar freshman season on the lanes for the 11th-ranked Louisiana Tech women’s bowling team.

Leiendecker also earned second-team All-Southland honors. She is the first Southland Newcomer of the Year in school history.

“Allie being named Newcomer of the Year shows the work ethic and talent that she has. She comes in with a can-do attitude, which also trickles down to the team,” Lady Techster head coach Matt Nantais said. “She has a great personality that lightens up the mood while we are competing. I can’t wait to see how much further she goes in her next three years at Louisiana Tech.”

The freshman racked up seven all-tournament honors including two tournament MVPs. Leiendecker missed out on all-tournament honors just once in 2019-20. She led the Lady Techsters with a 20.14 average baker frame and 20.54 average traditional frame.

The Wooster native finished fifth in the conference in overall scoring average (20.329) and second in traditional scoring average (20.671). She also ranked third in strike percentage (50 percent), and her Player Composite Performance Index placed seventh in the league.

Leiendecker earned Southland Bowler of the Month honors in February after leading Louisiana Tech with a 224.8 average at the Mid-Winter Invitational. Leiendecker led the league throughout February with a 21.64 overall average per frame and a traditional frame average of 22.5. She concluded the month ranked second in the league with a 91.3 percent fill average while knocking down 76 strikes.

The Lady Techsters finished the shortened season with a record of 64-34.
