Break the Cycle event helps fight addiction stigma
OneEighty will host its 13th annual Break the Cycle, an event to fight the stigma associated with addiction, on Saturday, Aug. 26, presented by Smucker’s, Wayne Insurance Group and the Mathur Family.
The event includes four bike options — 24-, 50- or 72-mile routes and a trail ride — and two 5k walks. This occasion raises dollars to support OneEighty’s addiction treatment and prevention programs. It is an opportunity to ride or walk in celebration of those in recovery and to honor a loved one who lost their life to the disease of addiction.
“I hope you will come out and publicly celebrate you or someone you know’s accomplishment,” said Duane, a peer recovery coach for OneEighty who will anniversary 11 years of recovery this September. “This is your chance to be an inspiration to someone else — stand up and let others know that recovery gives you a life. And if you know someone who didn’t win this battle, don’t let their life be lost in vain. Find something positive in this tragedy.”
The cost is $40 per person and includes a hot lunch. Registration on the day of the event increases to $45. Individuals doing a cycling route will start at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Individuals riding the trail will begin at Hipp Station in Millersburg. Start times vary for each route. There are two 5k walk options, both beginning at 9 a.m. Participants can walk through downtown Wooster, which will start at Wayne County Fairgrounds, or walk on the Holmes County Trail.
