UWWH ‘Giving Tuesday’ Dec. 1

United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties is gearing up for the global day of giving, Giving Tuesday, slated for Dec. 1. Giving Tuesday is a day that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s a day that encourages people to do good where they live, work and play.

“We are asking the citizens of Holmes and Wayne counties to think of United Way on Giving Tuesday 2020,” said Katie Koglman, UWWH executive director. “A gift to United Way helps 19-plus local organizations with programs pivotal to the success of so many in the communities we serve.

“We stretch dollars as far as they will go to help thousands of people each year. This year has been a tough one for many. We are here to help but can’t do that without the help of those living in our community who can give a gift of any size. Any little bit helps, and all dollars stay local.”

United Way will host a telethon sponsored in part by WQKT-FM, during which people can call in to UWWH and make pledges for the 2020 United Way campaign. United Way also will host live interactive games via Facebook Live to mark the occasion. UWWH will give away prizes including gift cards, which were donated by local businesses, and will give out United Way T-shirts to the winners.

United Way’s campaign runs through Dec. 31. The campaign goal is $1.5 million, and it is currently 65% there. Call United Way to make a pledge or visit www.uwwh.org and click on DONATE. People also can text GIVEHERE to 44-321, use PayPal (info@uww.org) to make a gift or call 330-264-5576. If you would like to mail your gift this holiday season, send to 215 S. Walnut St., Wooster, OH 44691.
