Most of Wayne Center for the Arts’ dance classes have been taking place virtually, a trend that will continue in addition to some limited small-group sessions with the Wayne Center Ballet Company.

Wayne Center for the Arts announced a new lineup of revised summer classes in visual arts, dance, pottery, theater, music and more. The arts center has been working to create opportunities for everyone with a mix of online virtual sessions, limited-enrollment in-person classes and art project boxes they’re calling Art Adventure Kits.

"What excites me the most about our summer program is that there are so many ways our community can have access to arts programming,” said Beth Negro, WCA education coordinator. “Whether it is video, live online, onsite or shipped to you in a kit, we can meet you where you are, all while keeping our community's health and safety as our top priority."

Visual arts plans include online classes designed to be completed with supplies students already have at home, as in Tasty Creations, where students will make food art, or Creating Cartoon Characters, a drawing class. The arts center also is planning several socially distanced outdoor art workshops on the WCA campus including Painting Your Surroundings and Nature Up Close.

New to WCA this summer is the creation of Art Adventure Kits, boxes that include supplies and instructions to make art projects designed by WCA arts faculty. Several of the kits include online video while others have the option to complete the kits completely off-screen. WCA teachers saw a need to encourage students to explore their nearby outdoor surroundings, so several projects include found materials from nature.

Most of Wayne Center for the Arts’ dance classes have been taking place virtually, a trend that will continue in addition to some limited small-group sessions with the Wayne Center Ballet Company. Dance faculty are working toward more in-person classes as the summer continues; in the immediate future, virtual classes are forming in beginning to advanced ballet, contemporary, hip hop, tap and more.

Other various offerings this summer include Long Story Short, an improv theater class; Music for Relaxation; pottery for continuing students; and a virtual Heroes and Villains three-day summer camp.

Wayne Center for the Arts’ summer class schedule can be found online at www.wayneartscenter.org/classes. As the art center’s building is still closed except for classes, individuals are encouraged to email frontdesk@wayneartscenter.org with questions or comments.

Wayne Center for the Arts is an arts nonprofit in Wooster dedicated to “enriching lives and strengthening communities through art.”
