Hiland hoopsters garner slew of awards

Another year, another award for Hiland Lady Hawks head coach Dave Schlabach, who garnered IVC South and District 5 Div. III Coach of the Year.

                        

The Inter-Valley Conference and the District 5 Coaches Association recently announced their all-star teams for basketball, and the Hiland girls dominated both lists.

Senior Zoe Miller was named the IVC South Division Player of the Year, District 5 Div. III Player of the Year and was selected to play in the D3-D4 North-South game, based on her averages of 17.4 points per game — on 58% shooting — along with 10.3 rebounds and three assists per game.

Other Hiland girls receiving special recognition included seniors Morgan Yoder and Kyli Horn, both named to both the IVC and District 5 first teams. Yoder averages 8.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg and 6 apg while Horn averages 12.2 ppg, 1.6 rpg and 2 apg.

Seniors Kelsey Swihart and Brynn Mullet were both second-team choices by the IVC and District 5. Swihart posts averages of 11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg and 1.7 apg while Mullet averages 10 ppg, 3.4 rpg and 3.9 apg.

Freshman Ashley Mullet, who averages 4.6 ppg, 1.2 rpg and 1.6 apg, was an honorable mention pick by the IVC and District 5.

Additionally, head coach Dave Schlabach was tabbed as the IVC South and District 5 Div. III Coach of the Year while longtime Hiland staffer David “Cousy” Borter was named Assistant Coach of the Year in District 5.

On the boys side, senior Will Schlabach was named IVC South and District 5 Div. IV Player of the Year after averaging 17.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game for the Hawks. He also was a first-team All-IVC pick.

Senior Ryan Miller (9.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2 apg) was a second-team pick in both the IVC and District 5 while junior Grant Miller (5.6 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 2.5 apg) was an honorable mention All-IVC selection and junior Dylan Weaver (7.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.3 apg) was honorable mention in District 5.

Rounding out the honors was Hiland coach Mark Schlabach, named District 5 Div. IV IVC South Co-Coach of the Year.
