WCA concert series continues Feb. 24 with pianist Gregg Kallor
The 2024 season of the Wayne Center for the Arts Presents series will continue Feb. 24 with pianist Gregg Kallor, who will perform from 7-9 p.m. in the WCA auditorium. This will be the second concert of the second season of the Wayne Center Presents series, presented in partnership with ESQYRE, an Ohio-based organization focused on classical music performance and education programs.
Kallor also is a composer — he’s a two-time Classical Recording Foundation’s Composer of the Year — whose music fuses the classical and jazz traditions. Opera News called Kallor a rising star in the music world with a singular compositional voice while the New York Times wrote, “At home in both jazz and classical forms, (Kallor) writes music of unaffected emotional directness. Leavened with flashes of oddball humor, his works succeed in drawing in the listener — not as consumer or worshipful celebrant, but in a spirit of easygoing camaraderie.”
His recent adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” premiered with Arizona Opera to sold-out performances, and his musical ghost story, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” debuted with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
“We are very pleased to continue the Wayne Center Presents series, bringing world-class performers to our community,” said Sara Starr Brink, executive director of the Wayne Center for the Arts. “Gregg Kallor has performed in the world’s most prestigious venues, and the opportunity to hear him play here in such an intimate setting will be truly remarkable.”
The Wayne Center Presents series features a variety of musicians from across the country. Others in the series include the Imani Winds on March 9, Chad Hoopes (violin) and Matthew Lipman (viola) on April 12, the Escher String Quartet on May 4, and JinJoo Cho (violin) and Hyunsoo Kim (piano) on May 31.
Tickets are $30 and available at WCA’s website at www.WayneArtsCenter.org/WCP. Band and orchestra students in Wayne County are encouraged to attend and can receive free tickets as available by visiting the site and filling out a request form. Support for Wayne Center Presents is provided by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and the Robert and Esther Black Family Foundation, among many other sponsors. The instrument for this performance is being provided by Steinway Piano Gallery Cleveland.
