Doughty Valley 4-H Club

The Doughty Valley 4-H Club was formed in 1924, but unfortunately no records were kept for that year. It reformed as a forestry club in 1925 in Clark. In the 1930s, there were members in the Doughty Valley Club to include Layland, Baltic, Coshocton, Millersburg and Clark. The Clark Sunny Stitchers formed in 1936 as a sewing club, and in 1945 the name was changed to Clark Victory Workers for one year. In 1970, Doughty Valley 4-H became the Doughty Valley Boys, and the girls were the Clark Sunny Stitchers. In 1981, the two clubs combined to become the Doughty Valley 4-H Club. Today, Doughty Valley has the distinction of being the oldest active club in Holmes County. It is a multi-specialty club, with members who take animal or life skills projects. Cloverbuds are an important part of the club. They meet once a month, prior to the regular meeting and learn things that will help them as they prepare to become a regular 4-H member, such as safety around animals. The Doughty Valley 4-H Club meets in Clark, at the Miley Center, the first and third Sundays of the month at 6:30 p.m. Officers have not yet been elected. There are close to 20 members in the club, as well as Cloverbuds. Contributed by Clarissa VanSickle.
