ARTSNCT creatively celebrates National Pizza Month
October is National Pizza Month, and ARTSNCT, Newcomerstown’s new arts center, is celebrating pizza with its first Pizza Box Art Contest and Exhibit. The center hopes to make this an annual tradition.
Local art class teachers and instructors are being asked to inspire each of their students to recycle a used pizza box and create a unique and imaginative piece of art. A limited number of new pizza boxes also may be obtained from ARTSNCT.
The arts center has partnered with Damon’s American Pizza, Domino's and Terry’s Pizza for this program.
Students at any grade level are eligible to win a pizza party for their classroom.
Participation requirements are:
—The art must cover the entire front of the box and give reference to pizza in some way. (No logos should be visible.)
—The four sides of the box must be painted, covered in a solid color or be incorporated into the art.
—Any items attached to the box must be securely affixed.
—All boxes will be hung and displayed at ARTSNCT Oct. 20 to Nov. 17 with a special preview on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 6-8 p.m.
—The name of the student, teacher and grade level must be visible and legible on the back of the box.
—Deadline to turn boxes into ARTSNCT or classroom teachers is Friday, Oct. 12.
Box art may be created as paintings, drawings, collages, mixed media, wall sculptures, clocks, lights or anything else students can imagine and create for a wall hanging.
ARTSNCT executive director Michael Wise said, “We love paint, glue, glitter, papier-mâché and just about everything fun and messy. We hope everyone will enjoy creating a pizza masterpiece.”
