Choral group will present concert at Dover First Moravian
The Zollikon Institute Choral Group will present a concert at Dover First Moravian Church on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
Franklin Miller, choral director at Legacy Christian School in Sugarcreek, said the 45 members are preparing their third year of concerts. The singers are just one of a number of segments of the Anabaptist Institute’s offerings.
The evening’s music will begin with an invitation to hear songs of praise and will feature three that are composed and arranged by Anabaptists. All music will be a cappella and will be sung in English, Romanian, Swahili and Latin.
“This group pulls together a wide range of singers from professionals to those who have never been in a choir before,” Franklin said. “If you are interested, you do not have to audition but need to know we work very hard.”
The concert is free to attend.
The institute said its mission is to create a community of scholars based on historic Christianity while also equipping individuals with the skills, integrity and faith to serve others.
Institute President Dean Taylor said Zollikon, founded by Norita and Marcus Yoder five years ago, along with its music program, provides training for Anabaptist business leaders who have not learned skills such as using computers because their education stopped early.
Taylor said, “We provide accredited classes through Malone University on our Walnut Creek campus. We are working on a Kairos University partnership that will offer regional and national accreditation with both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees. Its focus will be on both business and biblical leadership. We also want to train prospective pastors by equipping them with full understanding of the faith and its history.”
The institute is located at 5034 state Route 515 in Sugarcreek. Taylor said they are planning to build a new office on state Route 39, hoping the current facility can be turned into dorms for community leaders where both men and women can study.
Dover First Moravian Church is located at 319 N. Walnut St. in Dover.
