Community band to perform in Wooster
The Wayne County Historical Society Summer Community Band will have its second concert this summer on Thursday, July 19 at 7 p.m. Presented by Main Street Wooster, the concert is sponsored by the Wayne County Historical Society and Sprenger Health Care Systems.
The band will perform under the baton of Randy Claes. Also directing will be Tim Wolf.
The band will perform in downtown Wooster in front of Everything Rubbermaid. Spectators will need to bring their own lawn chairs. If weather does not permit the outside concert, it will be in St. Mary’s gymnasium, across Bowman Street from the Wayne County Historical Society.
The band will play music from marches, to show tunes, to patriotic songs in an effort to remind viewers of the bands that many communities had a century or so ago. The Wooster Board of Trade Band with its concerts in the old bandstand in front of the now Everything Rubbermaid store was an example of this type of band.
The band is open to anybody who plays a band instrument (including percussion), young or not so young, experienced or not so experienced. It ranges in age from 12-90 and has about 50 members this year. Several members of the band have college degrees in music (or are working toward a music degree) and several more played in a college-level band while they were in college.
