‘Creativity is Timeless’ exhibit winners are announced

Jay Heiser of Killbuck was awarded Best of Show for his photograph titled “Clapham Junction” at Walnut Hills’ recent “Creativity is Timeless” exhibit.

                        

The “Creativity is Timeless” exhibit held recently at Walnut Hills Retirement Community featured 51 pieces of artwork in a variety of categories.

The artwork exhibited on Aug. 24 was created by 26 different Holmes County area residents who are over the age of 55.

Best of Show was awarded to Jay Heiser of Killbuck for his photograph entry titled “Clapham Junction.” The People’s Choice, which was voted on by visitors to the exhibit, was given to Jean Flinner of Walnut Creek for her cross-stitch entry titled “New York.”

Winners in the seven individual categories were as follows:

—Paintings and drawings: Michael Schrock of Millersburg received ribbons for first and third place, and Jane Lile of Walnut Creek earned ribbons for second and fourth place.

—Woodworking: Bill Jennings of Walnut Creek was awarded first, Bill Kobel of Walnut Creek took second, and Jennings earned ribbons for third and fourth place.

—Hard crafts: George Bender of Walnut Creek received first place, Dod Nobel of Walnut Creek earned second place, and Susan Jones of Millersburg got third place.

—Quilts and wall hangings: Pauline Yoder of Walnut Creek received first place, Mary Jane Nobel of Walnut Creek took second place, Liz Jennings of Walnut Creek received third place and Ruth Watts of Walnut Creek earned fourth place.

—Soft crafts: Jean Flinner of Walnut Creek received ribbons for first and second place, Janice Heiser of Millersburg took third place, and Mary Jane Nobel of Walnut Creek earned fourth place.

—Photography: Jay Heiser received first place and third place, Ada Robinson of Walnut Creek earned second place, and Chris Miller of Walnut Creek got fourth.

—Miscellaneous: Jack Sjogren of Walnut Creek received the ribbons for first, third and fourth, and Elaine Veenhuis of Sugarcreek was awarded second place.

The award winners were announced at a reception for the artists and their guests held Aug. 23 at Walnut Hills.

The “Creativity is Timeless” exhibit is held to help celebrate the creativity and imagination of individuals age 55 and older. Over the 13 years of the event, almost 1,000 pieces of artwork have been displayed by almost 170 different artists.
