The Holmes Center for the Arts announced the following classes:

Learn Filmmaking and Photography: Art for Today’s World will be two classes in a socially distanced environment to help people become better photographers or filmmakers. Register at www.holmescenterforthearts.org. Class sizes will be limited.

“Lessons with Leah” Photography Workshop will be July 21 from 6-8 p.m. for age 10 and over. Learn the basics of photography with artist Leah Schonauer of Faith Through Fotos. Schonauer has been creating art her entire life in many forms. With a deep connection to photography, she attended and graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh with her bachelor’s in photography in 2015. With a heart for both learning and serving, she leads workshops for all ages.

In this workshop people start at the Holmes Center for the Arts, where the basics of using the camera, how to create and strengthen photos, and learning how photography is art will be covered, followed by a walk so students can capture some photos around Millersburg.

Participants will need a digital camera (phone, iPad, iPod, point and shoot digital camera or DSLR), questions about photography and walking shoes. The course will meet at Holmes Center for the Arts, 164 N. Washington St., Millersburg.

Filmmaking Workshop Series will be July 21-22 and 28-29 from 1-3 p.m. for age 11-18. Students will learn how to create a short film using free apps on their own cell phones. They will be guided through coming up with a film idea, learning how to storyboard what they are going to film, understanding different techniques on filming, and how to edit the video into a completed piece. This will all be done through writing exercises, brainstorming sessions and filming outside of the class. The instructor is Lauren Schrock, a Malone University graduate with a bachelor’s in communication arts with a concentration in film, media and theater.

Participants will need cell phone, ipad or other device with a video camera; InShot App (make sure this is downloaded and working on the device you are using); and notebook and pen/pencil. The class will meet at the outside pavilion at Berlin Mennonite Church.
