Auditions for the Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County’s Christmas production will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 22 at the theater. This year’s production, “Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells," is directed by Kathy Blair Bergstrom, who most recently directed “Sabrina Fair.”

Registration will begin at 1 p.m. with auditions at 1:30 p.m. “Junie B.," a tale based on the best-selling book series by Barbara Park, will run eight performances on the weekends of Dec. 5 and 12 and will include a special prologue of “'Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

Junie B. Jones, first-grader, is super-excited about the upcoming holiday sing-along and Secret Santa gift exchange at her school. Too bad tattletale May keeps ruining all of Junie B.'s fun. So when Junie B. draws May's name for Secret Santa, she comes up with the perfect plan to teach her nemesis a lesson. But will the Christmas spirit of peace and goodwill interfere before she can give you-know-who what she deserves?

In the special prologue, the children in room one prepare for the holiday sing-along. The kindergarten class in room A gets a surprise visit by Mrs. Claus, who attempts to read "‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” to an increasingly confused and excited group of kids. Laughs abound as the children try to figure out a style of language they have never heard as poor Mrs. Claus gets more and more frustrated.

Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script, and children will be required to sing the chorus of “Jingle Bells” without accompaniment. Cast members must be age 10 through older adult. No one under the age of 10 should audition.

The cast will include three adult males, four adult females and approximately 20-25 young adults. Those auditioning for the roles of students will portray kindergarten kids and first-graders.

Adult roles include Mr. Scary, the room one teacher; Grandpa Miller, Junie B.'s grandpa; Mr. Toot, the music teacher; Elf Ellen, a PTA parent; Mrs. Duffleberg, a PTA parent; Mrs. Devine, room A teacher; and Mrs. Claus.

Young adult roles are Junie B. Jones, May Herb, Lucille, Jose`, Sheldon and other students in room one, Junie B.'s stuffed elephant Philip Johnny Bob, and students of room A.

Performance dates are Dec. 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14 and 15 with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
