The entire gang will be on stage when The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County opens its 2023-24 season with the musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Auditions for the show will be held Sunday and Monday, Aug. 20 and 21, with callbacks on Wednesday, Aug. 23 if necessary.

Production dates are Fridays through Sundays, Oct. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. The musical is written by Clark Gesner and features the characters of Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip, “Peanuts.”

Director Jared Sparks-Lee said all actors age 16 and up will be considered for the principal roles of Charlie Brown, Linus, Schroeder, Sally, Lucy or Snoopy. Those auditioning for the roles are asked to prepare a 32-bar cut of a song that matches the style of the show. Do not sing a song from the show. A piano accompanist will be provided along with audio hookup for a prepared backing track — no vocals on the track.

Auditioners may be asked to cold read from the script. Sparks-Lee said those interested should check the theater’s website for further instructions on links to sign up and for dance routines.

Actors age 8-15 will be considered for the nonspeaking part of Woodstock. “We are looking for a young actor who can showcase their movement ability to bring this fun role to life,” Sparks-Lee said.

Auditioners should be aware of the particular traits of each character, Sparks-Lee said. Charley Brown is a lovable loser possessed of endless determination and hope but dominated by his insecurities and a permanent case of bad luck. Lucy Van Pelt, a crabby, bossy, selfish girl, is loud and obnoxious and in love with Schroeder. Linus Van Pelt, Lucy’s little brother, carries his blanket wherever he goes. Sally Brown, Charlie’s younger sister, prefers to slide by while doing as little work as possible and is somewhat of a philosopher. Schroeder is a skilled pianist whose interests lie solely with classical music and Snoopy, Charlie’s pet Beagle, who lives a fantasy life. Woodstock can be either a male or female, portraying a lovable, energetic bird who pesters Snoopy and loves to have fun.

Rehearsals for the show will begin Sunday, Aug. 27 and typically run Sunday through Thursday from 7-10 p.m. Any questions can be emailed to Jared.sparks1010@gmail.com.

The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County is located at 466 Carrie Ave. NW in New Philadelphia.
