Massillon Voice Competition now open to all Ohio residents
Previously the Massillon Voice Singing Competition was only open to Stark County residents. The deadline to be considered for the competition is July 15.
The Lions Lincoln Theatre in Massillon announced any Ohio resident may audition for the annual Massillon Voice Singing Competition to be held on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. Previously the competition was only open to Stark County residents.
The deadline to be considered for the competition is July 15. To audition, vocalists should email a video clip or link showcasing their vocal talent to lionslincolntheatre@gmail.com. Applicants also may audition in person by calling 330-481-9105 to schedule an appointment. Those chosen to participate will be notified by phone or email.
The contest is for vocalists only, no bands. Contestants may sing with a backing track or an accompanist such as a guitarist or pianist. Each act is limited to five minutes, and acts must be family-friendly: no profanity or inappropriate behavior.
There will be two categories for contestants: age 17 and under and age 18 and over. The winner in each age bracket will receive $75 and a trophy, the second-place winner in each age bracket will receive $25 and a trophy, and the third-place winner in each age bracket will receive $10 and a trophy.
The Massillon Voice is a fundraiser that will benefit the nonprofit Lions Lincoln Theatre to help pay for programming, repairs and operating expenses. The contestants will be judged on their vocal ability and stage presence, which will account for 90 percent of their score. The remaining 10 percent of their score will be the total amount of donations made in their name from program ads purchased, online donations or donations from the audience during the performance. Each dollar that is donated will be counted as one vote.
