Mohican Community Theatre to present ‘Disenchanted!’
Mohican Community Theatre, under the Loudonville Theatre and Arts Committee, will perform the musical comedy “Disenchanted!” for six performances at The Ohio Theatre in Loudonville on Feb. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.
Poisoned apples. Glass slippers. Who needs ’em? Not Snow White and her posse of disenchanted princesses in the hit musical that’s anything but Grimm.
Forget the princesses you think you know — the original storybook heroes have come to life to set the record straight. First performed off-Broadway in 2014 by Dennis T. Giacino, this musical will give a new appreciation for your favorite princess’ happily-ever-afters.
Although these are classic characters, it is not meant for young children. MCT suggests a rating of PG-13 for some adult language, content and humor.
Directing the show is MCT veteran actor Dennis Morgan, who is stepping off the stage to direct his first show. Joining him as co-director is his wife Deaunna Morgan, who also is the show’s costume director, and Sally Hollenbach, who will act as both vocal and technical director.
“I am super excited to be working with this wonderful cast of ladies on this hilarious show,” Dennis Morgan said. “We have been laughing a lot at every rehearsal and can’t wait to share it with the audience. It’s not a show for small children, but it is a really funny show for adults.”
The small cast of 10 includes some familiar MCT faces and new talent as well. Familiar faces include Hollenbach as Snow White, Emily Roblin as Sleeping Beauty, Sabrina Maristela and Bethany Paterson both as Hua Mulan (for one weekend each), Rachel Arnold as The Little Mermaid, Tiffany Cornell as Belle, and Traci Cooper as Rapunzel. New to MCT are Patty Schwall as Cinderella, Martha Tidball as Pocahontas and Lori Oswald as Princess Badroulbadour or Princess Jasmine as she’s come to be known.
The live pit orchestra is comprised of Jenny Carroll on keyboard, Gwyneth Hollenbach on percussion, Melissa Stage on bass and Karissa Frische on auxiliary keyboard. The stage manager for the show is Mackenzie Carney.
“We are excited to bring this hilarious musical comedy to the stage as the first show in the MCT 2024 season,” said Sally Hollenbach, The Ohio Theatre director. “It is reminiscent of an old-time vaudeville show and will keep you laughing from beginning to end. I am thrilled to be able to play Snow White and be back on stage again instead of being back in the tech booth. The Princess Posse packs a powerful punch and a great message in a hilarious way that only musical comedy can achieve.”
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students. All seats are reserved seating. For more information or to purchase presale tickets, visit the theater’s website at www.theohiotheatre.com or call the box office at 419-994-3750. The remaining tickets will be available at the door an hour before each performance on a first come basis.
There will be no movies played at The Ohio Theatre on the weekends of “Disenchanted!” The movie “Ordinary Angels” will show on opening weekend Feb. 23, 24 and 25 as well as March 1, 2 and 3.
