Orrville Community Theater got its start in 2008 and has been entertaining the community ever since. The nonprofit is currently looking for directors for its upcoming season and beyond.

Chelsea Alleman is the theater board president. She explained why the theater group is so important to the community and what it offers.

“What many of us see,” she said, “is that our community has a wealth of opportunities for those who are athletically inclined. However, there’s a lot less opportunity in this area for those who are artistically inclined. We want to have the ability to reach those children and adults.

“Even more so, it’s a great chance for parents and children to do something as a family, whether it’s watching a show or working on a show together. We love having the ability to bring the arts to this area.”

Currently on hiatus, the theater tries to produce four shows per year. Depending on director and location availability, the goal is for shows in early spring, mid-summer, mid-fall and a holiday show early in December.

The OCT Rising Stars program also is in the works for summer. The program is designed for kids kindergarten through high school.

“There are many goals associated with our Rising Stars workshops,” Alleman said. “Not only do we look for actors to put on the stage, we look for children who want to learn about theater but aren’t ready to be in front of an audience yet. We want to teach children the basics of theater through a variety of games and activities designed to help them learn while having fun and also build their confidence and develop their talents.”

The nonprofit is always looking for directors and production team members to bring shows to life. All levels of experience are welcome. They have some experienced directors who are happy to mentor as well.

“When I direct, I love bringing people onto my team that have a bit less experience so that we can develop that and create the level of independence that they need to direct their own shows,” Alleman said.

Directors are welcome, whether or not they have a show in mind. Interested directors are invited to email the board at orrvilleplayers@gmail.com or call 330-439-2051.

Donations are always welcome. Sponsorship information may be found online. There are a variety of additional ways individuals can help including stage crew, advertising, helping with classes and more. Anyone interested in donations or volunteering is welcome to get in touch via email or phone.

“We also are working to create committees to allow community members to join and bring their ideas to the table,” Alleman said. “All of our successes come from having a supportive community, so the best way we can continue to serve this community is to hear their thoughts and ideas.”

For auditions and show and workshop announcements, find Orrville Community Theater online at orrvillecommunitytheater.org and on Facebook under Orrville Community Theater.

“The biggest thing I want to share is how much we appreciate our supporters — the locations that let us do shows, the parents that allow us to work with their children and help during shows, the actors who lay their heart and soul on the stage, and the audiences who fill our seats and show us their unwavering support,” Alleman said.
