'Stark County Artists Exhibition' held at the museum since 1934

The Massillon Museum will celebrate the opening of the annual "Stark County Artists Exhibition" on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 5:30-8 p.m. with a reception for the artists in the main gallery. Award winners will be announced at 7 p.m. The party is free and open to everyone; no reservations are required.
The "Stark County Artists Exhibition" has been held at the museum since 1934, beginning as a statewide juried exhibit of fine arts and crafts. By the 1980s it was refocused to exhibit work by artists living and working in Stark County. To keep the show fresh, artwork submitted for consideration must have been created within the last two years.
All media were considered by the independent jurors: Ken Emerick, former artist programs and percent for art director, Ohio Arts Council of Columbus; Sarah J. Rogers, director at Kent State University Museum in Kent; and Stephen Tomasko, photographer in Akron. They selected artwork to be included in the exhibition as well as the awards.
The look of the exhibition is different from year to year because of the diversity of the artwork entered and the vision of the jurors, who vary every year. This year jurors selected 66 artworks by 47 artists from 189 artworks submitted by 79 artists.
Stark Countians whose artwork will be exhibited are Seth Adam, John B. Alexander, Diane Belfiglio, Todd Bergert, William M. Bogdan, Peter Castillo, Catherine M. Cindia, Therese Cook, Oxana Dallas, David L. Dingwell, Laura Donnelly, Steve Ehret, Megan Farrabee, Kathleen Gray Farthing, Gerald Fox, Sharon Frank Mazgaj, Robert Gallik, Coty J. Giannelli, Jared Hartmann, Charity Hockenberry, Judith Girscht Huber, Judi Krew, David Kuntzman, Sam Lilenfield, Timothy Londeree, Priscilla Sally Lytle, Nicole Malcolm, Robyn Martins, Tom Migge, Michelle Mulligan, Clare Murray Adams, Benjamin R. Myers, Tina Myers, Robert Nicoll, Patricia Zinsmeister Parker, Mark V. Pitocco, Anna Rather, Jacob Redmon, Erika Katherine, Israel Robinson, Priscilla Roggenkamp, Hilda Sikora, Sari Sponhour, Rosemary Stephen, Alex Strader, Tom Wachunas and Pat Mather Waltz.
In addition to viewing the "Stark County Artists Exhibition," visitors can see "Nature Configurations: The Drawings of Sandra Benny" in Studio M, "Evolution of the Football Jersey" and "125 Years of the Greatest High School Rivalry" in the Paul Brown Museum, artwork by members of the Boys and Girls Club of Massillon in the Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery, and "The Immel Circus."
The "Stark County Artists Exhibition," which will continue through Jan. 26, may be seen during regular museum hours Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 2-5 p.m.
