WCA 'Other People's Prints' exhibit opens Jan. 23
Wayne Center for the Arts will hold the second annual “Other People's Prints” exhibit on display in the Looney and Gault Galleries from Jan. 23 through Feb. 22. The WCA building is at 237 S. Walnut St. in Wooster.
The collection features the work of 20 printmakers from across the country, many of whom will be in attendance at the opening reception on Jan. 23 from 5-8 p.m.
The exhibit will feature artists Javier Flores (Denver, Colorado), Dusty Herbig (Syracuse, New York), Cynthia C. Petry (Ashland), Eliana Calle Saari (Columbus) and many others.
WCA instructors Ricki Denes and Claire Bond curated this exhibit. Denes emphasized the inclusive nature of printmaking, calling it the people's art form due to its accessibility and affordability. This philosophy is reflected in the exhibit, where many participating artists will offer unframed prints for sale.
The opening reception invites guests to engage with the art firsthand by trying their hand at printmaking on WCA's own printing press. Visitors can print a poster on paper or bring a thin, flat fabric item such as a cotton T-shirt, canvas bag or tea towel to create a custom print on fabric.
While “Other People's Prints” has no set theme, the featured works explore a range of topics including mental health, heritage, environmental concerns and women's issues.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to bring artists from all over the country together to celebrate this unique art form,” said Sara Starr Brink, executive director of Wayne Center for the Arts. “We are excited to share this engaging and thought-provoking collection with our community.”
Admission to the exhibit and opening reception is free. WCA’s galleries are supported by the Donald and Alice Noble Foundation, the Ralph R. and Grace B. Jones Foundation, Carol Briggs, Cheryl and Steve Shapiro, United Titanium, Bogner Construction Company, Jarrett, Caret Film Design, Walnut Street Gallery, and Critchfield, Critchfield and Johnston, and sustainability funding is provided by the Ohio Arts Council.
