Two simple words, “Thank You”

I went to the cemetery yesterday with my fav dude to visit my late grandfather’s grave. It is something that I do quite often-finding solitude in that stone. But as I looked around, I began to wonder how many of the other nearby graves get visitors.

Does anyone remember the men and women buried there? Are they forgotten? Does anyone care?

My thoughts moved on to Memorial Day, which is fast approaching. I wondered how many of my fellow Americans truly honor the day for what it is – a tribute to our fallen heroes, the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we have today.

Is Memorial Day just another Monday for you? Is it a chance for a three-day weekend or an excuse for a family cookout?

For me, Memorial Day is a time to be enjoyed with family and friends but the ultimate meaning of the day is not lost. Attending a Memorial Day service, parade or just stopping by the cemetery to honor local veterans is definitely on my agenda.

What will you do for Memorial Day?

If you do nothing else, I challenge you to tell a veteran two simple, yet very meaningful words this Memorial Day. When you see a veteran on May 31, look him or her in the eyes and say, “Thank you.”

That’s really all you need to say. Thank a veteran for his or her service. I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the response you get back. Remember, if it wasn’t for the sacrifices that many veterans made, you wouldn’t even be able to say, “Thank you.”
