There is no Space in this world for my broken political heart

I was so sure that Zack Space was the guy. This charming, effervescent guy with charisma, a hearty laugh, a deep commitment to family, faith...

Now, with one fell swoop, he has shattered my dreams of what a politician should be, and broken my political heart.

His recent campaign strategy of crucifying Bob Gibbs in the press, on TV, through the use of the Internet and more has destroyed everything I felt was right about the man.

Has Space made mistakes? Absolutely, and he will be the first to tell you that. His candor about his shortcomings, his mistakes and how he could have done things differently was what drew me to him. Here was a man who felt right to me. He felt like a guy who could magically blur the line of politics as usual, a guy who instead of seeing blue or red saw purple. A man who stood up for what he believed his people wanted and needed, and took some major heat from people as high as the President of the United States and the Speaker of the House in order to stand up for his constituents. I still think he displays those qualities.

But then he had to go and crush my dreams of a man who was going to be a difference-maker by embarking on a national witch hunt against his coming opponent Bob Gibbs. I think Gibbs is a good, honest man too. A man with flaws, yes, but one who has what is good and right at heart. A man who is too good of a person to be belittled and ripped to shreds in the name of politics.

Is this what politics has come to? Are our politicians today so shallow and unworthy that they have to focus on their opponent's shortcomings rather than showcasing what is good and worthy about themselves?

I have seen a massive percentage of politicians who are just like that, regardless of what color of coat they wear. I have seen promises broken, and I have seen parties blindly support their candidate despite that candidate being a scum bag, simply because the party line dictates their mindless loyalty. They follow like sheep.

Now, the one man I felt was capable of so much more has broken my heart, and along with it my hope that somehow, some way, we could erase the color barrier in politics and make sense of a system which has become so self-serving and party oriented that it puts the very people it is supposed to serve far, far back in the rear view mirror.

I am heart-broken.

And for those Republicans sitting there reading this going ,"I told you so," shame on you. Shame on you for sitting there showing exactly what is wrong with our political system today, in which we vote for a color instead of a man or woman who is willing to be accountable, do what is right for the people they represent and move in the direction that our founding forefathers designed.

Shame on you too, because this could just as easily be about anyone on your side.
It is a sad time for me, because what I firmly trusted and believed to be true is no more.
All I can say is that there has been another nail driven into the coffin of my political grave, so to speak, as America continues to create the Great Divide, and politicians make it more about the other guy than themselves.

I must say, the colors red and blue have become my least favorite. In Biblical times, purple was the color of royalty, of greatness, or reverence and respect. It signified great leadership. Today's politicians have run screaming from that, to opposite ends of the spectrum, away from God, away from the freedoms our nation was built upon and away from the people.
Now, after this, where am I to turn? I have no intention of now going on some crusade against Space or for Gibbs. That is not the intent of this blog. It is only to express my sadness in what has transpired.

So sad indeed.
