"8MM" (R)
It's official — Nicholas Cage is at an all-time low.
You would think that winning an Academy Award for a movie like "Leaving Las Vegas" would propel your career into orbit and give you an unbelievable amount of scripts to choose from.
Instead Cage has gone from mediocre ("Con Air") to bad ("Snake Eyes") to the worst in this dispicable private eye trash film about the seedy underbelly of the pornography industry.
Cage plays a private eye who is trying to track down the identity of a young girls on a "snuff" film — which is a film in which the actor involved is brutally murdered on film.
Cage's job is to find out if the young girl was really killed and if so, who did it.
Away-too-longtwo hours and ten minutes later you realize that this movie has no redeeming qualities, uses every cliche in the book and makes it impossible to enjoy any single moment in the movie.
Cage'sperformanceis especially disappointing as he drones his way through.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt up to this point, blaming his performances on bad writing and poor scripts, but his effort here is pathetic.
There is not one thing in this picture worth remembering, unless, like some of the characters in it, you are heavy into massochism.
Shame on me for even seeing it and shame on our society for allowing movies like "8MM" to be No. 1 on the charts.
