“Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”
"Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" (PG-13)This sequel follows our favorite 1960s hero, Austin Powers, as he travels back in time to battle the evil Dr. Evil.
This second effort by Mike Myers grossed more in the first week (more than $50 million) than the first one did in its entire run.
It surely isn't worth that kind of box office credit, so it goes to show just how much a good publicity campaign can do for a movie.
While the jokes come hard and heavy, only about half hit the funny bone, and most of those aren't double-over laughing kind of jokes.
The cast of characters does have its moments, however.
Mini Me — Dr. Evil's 1/8th size version of himself — is humorous and the most underrated job goes to Rob Lowe as the 1960s version of Number 2.
Robert Wagner plays Number 2 in the 1990s and Lowe's imitation of Wagner is dead on.
Once again bodily functions are at the center of many of the jokes, which is getting kind of old.
Even the end credits — which could have been some great out-takes — were hardly worth staying around for.
This could have been a very funny flick, but Myers mires in mediocrity.
DT: Incredibly, you made it through the entire review without using the words "shagadelic" or "baby." That would make you the first movie critic to do that.
