"Bats" — (PG-13)
DM: File this one under the "don't bother renting" category.
Did you ever wonder what it might look like if you cut out cardboard figures, dubbed in voices and made your own movie with your video camera?
If you can imagine that, you can imagine what "Bats" is like.
Lou Diamond Phillips gives one of the stiffest performances on record and the humor misfires in all directions throughout this "horror/comedy."
I continually fought off sleep throughout the entire movie.
Of course, in the end our three heroes can easily do what an entire army unit couldn't in order to save the world from the dreaded hybrid bats, which resemble a computerized, updated version of the flying monkeys from "The Wizard of Oz."
Oh no, did I give away the ending? Who cares. You shouldn't ever, ever see this anyway.
The only thing more frightful than Phillips and company's effort in front of the camera was this bad movies take at the box office.
Score: DM 20
