Summer lovin'

Summer lovin'

Now, before you get too far into this, I want to be clear about one thing.
I’m not having a summer fling and I haven’t started a relationship recently.
In fact, nothing in my life resembles Grease. No summer nights, no greased lightning, and no chills of mine are multiplying. It’s true.

But, I DO love summer. This summer has been particularly great. Now, I don’t know about you, but summer is in my top three seasons. Fall and spring have a tie. And winter only makes a ranking for about a week a year, then I hibernate and forget about it.

I have great memories about summers past. Spending time on Kelleys Island.
Camping with my family. Going to Myrtle Beach. Road tripping with my parents and sister. Waking up with no schedule. Swimming in my neighbor’s pond. So many great memories.

Now, summer looks very different. In fact, a few weeks ago, one my 11-year-old friends was shocked to learn that I actually have to work during the
summer. But, even though summer looks very different, I still love it.

Summer mornings are great. I love waking up to a beautiful sunrise and fog lifting off of the pond in my front yard. I love the dew on the grass and the chilled mornings that turn into warm summer days. Summer mornings on my day off consist of lots of coffee on the front porch. I’ve solved many problems on that porch with my coffee, Bible, and friends. I love the fields around my house that are full of hay, cows, and horses.

Summer food is a whole topic all it’s own. Who doesn’t love a great hamburger or hot dog? How can you deny fresh berries from roadside stands? How can you even deny ice cream on a hot summer day? And iced sweet tea? Don’t get me started, don’t even get me started!

I love summer clothes. How easy is it to throw on shorts and a T-shirt? Flip flops? YES! Summer clothes for the win!

Road Trips. I have loved my weekend road trips this summer. How great is it
to drive with the windows down and the music up? This summer, take a road trip – even if it’s just for a day. Load up in your car, set the GPS, and hit the open road.

Summer weddings. I’m a wedding person and summer weddings are fun. At any given summer wedding, you can find me on the dance floor Cha-Cha Sliding it up!

Landscaping. I have enjoyed working out in the yard and planting. The weeding? Not so much, but give me some motorized clippers and some plants and let me roll!

There are so many things to love about summer, but I think what I love most about summer are the hot lazy days of summer – you know, the “dog days” of summer. Nothing beats hanging out with a good book in the sun, soaking in some good old-fashioned vitamin D.

So, no matter what season you appreciate most, enjoy these lazy dog days of summer. Enjoy all the things that come with summer – the food, the weather and the laziness. Enjoy it all. This summer, spend time with the ones you love soaking in all this season has to offer.
