Don't miss it
At church this past Sunday, my husband and I were left completely speechless. The message, the music, our God and the reality that we are loved in the most sacrificial, precious, and incomparable way, left us without words. We had the opportunity to take communion while listening to songs like Oh, How He Loves Us; How Deep, How Wide, How Great is Your Love For Me; and Lord, I’m Amazed By You.
Our hearts were full and the things of this world, all the worries, troubles, and pain were put into proper perspective for a time. I didn’t want to leave this place. I don’t mean that I didn’t want to leave the seat I was sitting in. I didn’t want to leave this place where my heart had camped for awhile, this place of Grace and Peace.
Our time there had ended and, without uttering words to each other, we made our way out the door of the church where the sun was shining and the rest of our Sunday would begin. As we walked toward to parking lot, I heard a woman’s voice behind me say, “It’s just disrespectful the way some people dress for church.”
I just looked back for a moment to see who had said that. I knew she wasn’t referring to us or she could’ve been. I didn’t care and I kept quiet as I was still in the moment of grace and a heart full from the service.
We went on to lunch, still having not said much verbally, but speaking volumes with passing glances and knowing smiles, in awe and total wonder at the love of God. As I took my first bite of a yummy cheddar bay biscuit, something hit me.
I looked at my husband who was enjoying his first bite of lunch and said, “She missed it, she really just missed it.”
Remembering days when I would miss “it” - the meaningful, the root, the total joy of a moment. When we miss it, we truly miss out. Something is stolen from us when we focus on secondary and nonessential things.
If, this Thanksgiving week, I can focus on the truly meaty part of life… God, His love for us, family, and truly have a laser-like focus on what is lasting and beautiful about this life, I won’t miss “it” and neither will you.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and thank you for taking time to read our thoughts and hearts here on The Bargain Hunter blogs.
We are truly thankful for you
Here’s to not missing it.
