As summer winds down, the tiny town of Charm is ready to provide one more ultra-cool event that has been a real crowd-pleaser to residents and visitors over the years.

Take a respite from summer’s heat when Charm hosts their annual Cool Down Sale. Most area merchants will offer sales and promotions to suit any shopper’s budget on Aug. 10.
The Charm Cool Down Sale maintains its small-town atmosphere with a local flavor that is family-friendly and entertaining.

The sale is geared toward locals and has a reunion feel to it. The event takes place at the Charm Elementary School yard, where there will be plenty of games and activities designed specifically for kids. Bounce houses and games and activities for the kids will keep them busy, allowing the adults to drop off the children and head into town to explore the great sales throughout Charm. Merchants will offer food and refreshments beginning at 4 p.m., and this year will feature the candy drop for the kids.

Activities for kids will include face painting, balloon animals and more, and there will be a kids’ fishing contest for youth 14 and under. Each participant will receive a fishing bobber just for participating, and first-place will receive a rod and reel with second place getting a tackle box.

There also will be a fun game for adults with KanJam being the focal point of a tournament. KanJam, a game that features a flying disc and a bucket, has become quite popular in the area, and there will be a tournament for adults as well as a tournament for those 14 years old and younger.

The youth tournament is free while the entry fee for the adult tournament, which is two players per team, is $20 per team. Both contests will be a double-elimination tournament. Team entries must be received by Aug. 8, and teams may register by calling David Kuhns at 330-473-7252.

All of the proceeds from the tournament will go directly into the Charm Share-n-Care Fund. There will be three prizes including $300, $200 and $100 for first, second and third place. Winners will be asked to donate at least half of their winnings to their favorite charity.
The winner of the 14 and under tournament receives two $50 merchant cards with the second-place team receiving a pair of $25 merchant cards.

The Charm Cool Down Sale brings plenty of cool fun to the end of what is usually a hot summer period, and it also serves as an entertaining activity that gives families a chance to enjoy one more summer event before kids head back to school.
