Dutchman Hospitality, the parent company of Der Dutchman, Dutch Valley, Berlin Farmstead Restaurants, Carlisle Inns and gift shops, has had a longtime vision for adding a Carlisle Inn on the property adjacent to their Der Dutchman Restaurant in Sarasota, Florida. After years of planning and preparation, construction is about to begin. On Wednesday, Nov. 30 a ground-breaking ceremony was held in the Pinecraft neighborhood. Mike Palmer, president of Dutchman Hospitality Group, said the estimated completion date will be February 2018. When Dutch Corporation divided their assets in 2001, the Sarasota property became a Dutch Heritage Restaurant, owned and operated by the Levi and Lillis Troyer family. In 2012 Dutchman Hospitality acquired the Sarasota property, and the plans for the new inn slowly began to move forward, not without many challenges and taking much longer than expected to arrive at the actual ground-breaking four years later. The 85,000-square-foot inn will feature 100 rooms, 4,000 square feet of meeting space and beautiful, spacious common areas where guests will gather for fellowship and conversation. Approximately 30 percent of the rooms will be suites to accommodate groups of families and friends. In keeping with the Dutchman Hospitality brand, the inn will reflect the Amish and Mennonite culture while offering the modern amenities that are expected by today’s travelers. The vision of Dutchman Hospitality Group is to provide its guests with an experience that celebrates the traditional values, simple comforts and rural charm of the mid-western Amish and Mennonite communities. “It is our goal to provide a beautiful place where guests from all over the world can come to rest and be refreshed,” marketing manager Vicki VanNatta said. “Showing hospitality and serving others with excellence is basic to our faith.” Dutchman Hospitality Group began in 1969 in Walnut Creek, Ohio, with a small 75-seat restaurant. The company now owns six restaurants, three — soon to be four — inns, six retail shops, a wholesale food and restaurant supply company, and they are currently constructing a 500-seat theater on the Dutch Valley campus in Sugarcreek. Dutchman Hospitality facilities are located in Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, Berlin, Bellville and Plain City, Ohio, and in Sarasota, Florida.
