Wow, children’s cow humor … does it get any better?
On Saturday, June 16 it will get a lot better when Berlin Moofest comes to Amish Country and brings with it some fantastic fun for young and old alike.
The Berlin Main Street Merchants created Moofest several years ago to celebrate National Dairy Month, which is appropriate because Holmes County and dairy farming have gone hand in hand for a long time.
“This all began as a way to thank our local dairy farmers for everything they do for our community and for the important role they play in our local economy,” said Eli Hochstetler, president of the Berlin Main Street Merchants. “Dairy is such a huge part of our area here in Holmes County. It’s nice for us to be able to thank them for the job they do because not too many of us want to roll out of bed at 4:30 in the morning and go milk the cows.”
The various products sold in and around Berlin that are linked to dairy are many. Milk, cheese products, organic farming, yogurt, fudge, chocolate and more highlight the many dairy products that help drive the local economy.
Moofest will feature some great sales up and down Main Street in Berlin and beyond, and Hochstetler said the key to finding the savings is by simply asking an employee what they have to do to get the savings.
Hochstetler said the Gospel Book Store will offer 25 percent off to anyone who has a unique or interesting cow story that happened to them.
“We encourage everyone in town to offer dairy-related sales,” Hochstetler said. “Tell a cow tale, get a discount. Moo for the clerk, get a discount. You never know what might earn you a few dollars off.”
German Village welcomes back Callie, the mechanical milking cow that always takes on a key role as visitors try to milk her. It can be humorous to watch those who have never milked a cow in their life try to get Callie to produce.
Ever since its inception several years ago, Moofest has beckoned families both far and near to participate in the joy of what has become a Holmes County celebration of all things dairy.
But what makes this event so much fun in addition to the many activities is the way families have used it as a way to get together to enjoy spending time together in a relaxed atmosphere that invites everyone to let their hair down and share a good time of laughter and relaxation.
Over the years families both near and far have used this day to spend time together, simply goofing around, catching up and making the most of the opportunity to explore Amish Country and Berlin’s many stores and activities, so this event is a fun day out.
OK, here’s one more to tide you over and arm you with some humorous material for when Berlin Moofest arrives because you never know when a good cow joke might be worth some savings at Moofest.
Q: What do you get when you cross an angry sheep with a grumpy cow?
A: An animal that’s in a baaaaaaaad moooooood.
