For many years the annual Mt. Eaton Days has been a boon for those wanting to save money as nearly all local Mt. Eaton merchants offer up some savings in their respective stores.

New to the two-day event, which will take place Friday and Saturday, June 7-8 this year, a pony named Rambo, along with a harness and cart for him to pull, will go home with one winner. This promotion began in January. One raffle ticket is given to any patron who spends $100 through June 8, and then a winner will be chosen.

While the savings and prizes are nice, the annual event also is a gift from a caring community to families in the region who are in need of support.

Every year Mt. Eaton Days serves as a way for the community to raise money for a local family suffering from a hardship. The proceeds from this year’s Mt. Eaton Days annual benefit auction will be presented to Robert Hershberger, who is wheelchair-bound.

John Miller, manager of Mt. Eaton Hardware and a committee member, said being able to aid the family is the best part of the weekend’s festivities. “This is a great tool for us as a community to reach out and help a family in need,” Miller said.

The benefit auction will take place Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. at Town Hall.

Meanwhile, each of the participating stores will offer their own savings. Each business has also donated a prize to add to the raffle.

Patrons will be awarded one raffle ticket simply by stopping in and signing up at each business. Plus patrons can earn one additional ticket for each $20 they spend. The drawing for a winner from each business will take place at 2 p.m., along with the announcement of the winner of the pony, harness and cart. The winner need not be present to win.

Mt. Eaton Merchant Gift Certificates, for use at participating area merchants throughout the coming year, will be available for purchase.

The fun will start on Friday, June 7 with garage sales throughout the community to go along with the in-store sales. Sausage sandwiches will be served beginning at 6 a.m., and Lerch’s Donuts will be onsite.

A local Amish school will provide sandwiches and other food during the day. The volleyball action will heat up on Saturday when teams will participate in a large all-day tournament at Mt. Eaton Elementary School, starting at 9 a.m.

“Mt. Eaton Days is a great way to kick off the summer season,” Miller said. “We’ll have a lot to do.”

A hitching post parking area for visitors coming to town by buggy is available. Additional hitching rails are located behind the elevator in the downtown area.

Stop by Absolute Chiropractic, Miller’s Horseshoeing, Mt. Eaton Elevator, Mt. Eaton Greenhouse, Mt. Eaton Hardware, Mt. Eaton Harness, Mt. Eaton Variety, Precision Power Equipment, Red Tomato Market, Sharing Joy Hymn & Book, Spector’s Store, United Fencing Weaver Service, Yoder Service and Supply, and Yoder Sharpening to find bargains and plenty of fellowship.

Don’t miss this weekend of savings, food and community and a chance to win Rambo.
