Much support given in Apple Creek
Four local companies met at the Wayne County Regional Training Facility in Apple Creek on Sept. 21 to present checks and donate services in support of the grain safety training facility.
This facility will offer training opportunities for farmers and agricultural companies as well as first responders on grain entrapment prevention and rescue. The Wayne County Regional Training Facility trains over 1,600 students per year from a six-state area, and this grain safety training facility will be the first of its kind in Ohio.
One of the four companies in attendance was Custom Agri Systems Inc., which is donating over $27,000 worth of materials to the project. Centerra Co-op and Farm Credit Mid-America are each donating $25,000 toward the project. Donating equipment and labor for excavation and preparation of the site is Orr Construction of Apple Creek.
Phase one of this project, led by volunteers of Wayne County Farm Bureau in cooperation with Custom Agri Systems Inc. and the Wayne County Regional Training Facility, is due to be completed by Thanksgiving.
Fundraising efforts for phase two include a training platform and steel-framed building to be erected around the training bin and will continue with an anticipated completion of June 2019.
Support for this project not only includes the four companies recognized on Sept. 21, but also other county Farm Bureaus, area businesses and individuals.
