New Uhrichsville shop celebrates fiber arts
To be able to do the kind of work you love and follow a lifelong dream is something to which many of us aspire. Jessika Zontini of Dover is one who is doing just that with her new store, Pindrop Shop, in Uhrichsville.
“We’ve been open just a couple of weeks,” Zontini said. “We’ve been doing really remarkably well so far.”
The store at 107 E. Third St. in Uhrichsville offers fine fabrics and yarns not commonly seen in the area. “We really want to offer supplies and help meet the needs of crafters in the area. I want to offer a lot of different, high-quality fabrics,” Zontini said.
Pindrop Shop also is offering a slate of classes, taught by both Zontini and guest instructors.
“I want Pindrop Shop to be a place to gather and meet other crafty people who love to do the same things,” Zontini said. “Laura Gray is founder of the Fiber Arts Guild of Tuscarawas County, and she will be teaching classes for people who want to learn to spin their own natural yarns.”
The store also offers some of the hand-spun yarns created by Gray using wool from the animals at her farm.
Zontini began as a student herself. “When I was young, my mom taught me how to sew, and I’ve always loved it. I love to sew, knit and crochet, and I wanted to do that full-time and help others learn and get better as well,” she said.
Zontini said she has received a lot of encouragement from family and friends. “They have helped me a lot in getting this started,” she said.
Classes are offered at Pindrop Shop in introductory knitting, sewing, quilting and crochet as well as how to create a granny square in crochet and a class devoted to helping children learn to sew.
Zontini said the classes will grow in the future along with product offerings. “I plan to be able to offer classes for kids and adults at all skill levels, beginners through advanced,” she said.
For now the store is pretty much a one-person operation. “Just me right now,” Zontini said. “It surely keeps me busy.”
The knitting class gets students on the path to creating a sheet scarf and covers basic tools and skills. The introductory machine sewing class walks newcomers through creation of a tote bag.
Beginners in crochet will learn the basics and create a scarf or simple washcloth. Children in the sewing class will learn the basics of threading a machine and other skills in making a pillow.
Those who have a serger gathering dust can learn or relearn the intricacies of this machine. Students can view the full range of classes and sign up at www.shoppindrop.com.
“The yarns, fabrics and notions we have are of very high quality, and many are not easy to find,” Zontini said.
The shop also maintains a Facebook page with constantly updated information.
