When most people think of renting equipment, whether small power tools for those once-and-done jobs or big gear like an excavator or bulldozer for major projects, the name Holmes Rental & Sales comes to mind.
Sales Manager Dave Miller would like you to think outside the equipment rental box.
“We’re different in that we sell nearly everything we rent,” he said. “As an authorized Cub Cadet and Ferris dealer, we offer every size and type of walk-behind and riding mower manufactured by the two companies.”
Holmes Rental & Sales also offers a comprehensive assortment of other power tools and equipment, such as Yanmar tractors and UTVs, Echo trimmers and chain saws, Sno-way, Meyer and Boss snow plows and much more.
“Holmes Rental started in the rental business in 1997 and in 2008 added the Cub Cadet line. That was our start in the sales aspect,” Miller said. “Since then we’ve grown our sales division to include all types of mowers, power tools and heavy equipment. We also service everything we sell and most other brands as well.”
In fact, the service team at Holmes Rental & Sales’ three locations receives regular factory training. They can tackle the toughest repair jobs, whether you’ve purchased your equipment from Holmes or not. You can also make a purchase at one location and enjoy service at another. But the exceptional service provided by the Holmes Rental & Sales team doesn’t begin when the need for maintenance or a repair pops up. It starts the moment you walk through the door.
“The service aspect of what we do here is really second to none,” Miller said. “When you come into one of our stores looking for a mower or other power equipment, we don’t focus on selling the most expensive equipment you are willing to buy. Our goal is to determine which model will best meet the needs of our customers in effort to ensure they’re making the right purchase for their property. We don’t just sell equipment to you and send you on your way. We set it up, fill it with fuel and show you how to use what you’ve purchased. We want you to come back after the sale for anything you may need.”

“We have 21 to 59 horse power models available,” he said. “The smaller version is ideal for mowing grass and light landscaping jobs, like moving mulch or even cleaning out a barn. The bigger version is where all of the bells and whistles come into play. It can tackle the grass, bale hay, dig dirt and perform general farming and commercial landscaping tasks. And we have a ton of different attachments to personalize it to your specific needs.”
Once you own a Yanmar, Miller stated, you likely won’t need another piece of heavy equipment.
“The variety of attachments means you can be farming or landscaping one minute and doing construction the next,” he said. “It’s a really versatile piece to include in your personal property management arsenal.”
When I mentioned to Miller the idea of handling a tractor of the size and scope a Yanmar represented seemed a bit intimidating, he immediately quashed any reservations I might have had. “These tractors are very easy to use and there is no reason for anyone to be afraid to hop into the driver’s seat,” he said.
