With a roster of 45 wrestlers and access to thousands of other guest wrestlers as well, Powerslam Pro Wrestling will bring pro wrestling action to Tuscarawas County. The business is in its fifth year. Previously, it was located in Beach City and Canton.

“We have a roster of ladies and gentlemen, both trained professional wrestlers, and we just put on good shows, family-friendly shows for the kids and adults of all ages,” said Brent Scott, owner of Powerslam Pro Wrestling. “We’re growing and doing better every show, and it’s good that the mall has been very welcoming.”

Scott is a professional wrestler, known as Slick White, who wrestled off and on for 25 years. Now that he is the owner of Powerslam, he is known as The Boss.

Some of the more recognizable names in the sport have influenced Scott.

“I’ve always been a fan of the bigger wrestlers like Terry Gordy, Big Show and Andre the Giant because of the mobility they have to do what they do,” Scott said, “and as far as promoting and doing the shows, (the late) David Hastings — he was a local promoter — and a good friend of mine that got me into the business. If it wasn’t for him, there’d be a lot of local guys that never got in the business.”

Based in the New Towne Mall, Powerslam Pro Wrestling also provides a yearlong educational program to learn everything you need to know about the pro wrestling business.

“On Mondays and Tuesdays, we have two classes, about 15 students total that train here to become professional wrestlers, referees and managers,” Scott said. “They learn all aspects; they learn the business side of it and the wrestling side of it. So they’ll know how to do all this stuff behind the scenes too — camera work, merchandise, sales, stuff like that.”

The dream of students is always to make it big, but it is difficult.

“I tell everybody we are the 1% of the 1%. So 1% of everybody who wants to become a wrestler, only 1% of them become a wrestler,” Scott said. “And then wherever you go with that, it is on you. We give them all the tools to do what they need to do, but they’re going to have to put the work in.”

The students help with putting on pro wrestling events at the mall. Scott currently does two shows a month and would like to increase that to weekly events in the future.

“Once in a while, we bring in people that have been on TV or who are WWE retired. We’ve had James Storm. We’ve had Tommy “Wildfire” Rich, and it’s been very cool,” Scott said. “We’re getting ready to do some meet and greets, where we’ll bring in wrestlers and the fans can come in and buy autographs. We’re working on some stuff with some wrestlers now. Once we get our foothold in here in the mall, then we’ll bring in some names and have meet and greets and seminars.”

Dates of upcoming Brawls at the Mall are Aug. 25, Sept. 22, Oct. 13 and 27, Nov. 10 and 24, and Dec. 8 and 22. Tickets can be reserved by calling or texting 330-243-0279.

The business’ ring is portable, and Powerslam Pro Wrestling has featured pro wrestlers at Dover Canal Days and has an upcoming show scheduled at the Midvale’s Miners Jubilee on Sept. 8.

Sponsors of Powerslam Pro Wrestling are South Phila Pizza, Top Tier Roofing Solutions, Lee’s Famous Recipe, Y Tavern, Tint by KAM Inc., Quaker Drive Thru and Car Time.
