Easter comes alive April 12 and 13 at Winfield UMC
Few things are more inspirational and emotional to Christians than the passion of Jesus Christ’s final moments on earth. Bringing them to life can be uplifting and dramatic.
The second annual Jerusalem Walk is a live drama portraying the events of Holy Week, including the Last Supper, Jesus’ betrayal at Gethsemane, the crucifixion, and Christ’s resurrection.
Visitors may gather in the sanctuary and listen to special music in preparation of this inspirational presentation.
The walk takes place in the church gymnasium, which is transformed into the culture of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Walk takes people through the final days of Holy Week and they will witness the story of Easter as it unfolds.
Jerusalem walk is acted out by church members who pour themselves into presenting a spiritual journey like no other.
“It’s incredibly powerful and speaks to people,” said Chris Pratt, who depicts Jesus in the play. “I tell people that if you don’t come out of that feeling differently about the walk of Christ, you’re doing something wrong.”
What makes the play so powerful and mesmerizing is that it envelopes the patrons, who witness each step of Jesus’ final moments on earth.
From getting a first-hand view of the Last Supper, to feeling fear as the Apostles flee the Garden of Gethsemane as soldiers take Christ away to be tried, the public is right amongst the actors.
They will stand shoulder to shoulder with the crowd who demands that Barabas be let go and that Christ be crucified. They will experience the trial with Pilate, the agony of the crucifixion and the joy of the resurrection, as Jesus passes along the words that He is indeed risen.
“One of the neat things is that the people who come to see this are a part of the whole play, right there with the actors in the crowd,” said Pratt. “They really do become part of the whole process.”
The Winfield United Methodist Church Passion Play will take place April 12 and 13 from 6-9 p.m.
The event is free to the public. Afterward, patrons may enjoy refreshments in the front entryway as they reflect on the experience.
