For more than 30 years Dr. G.V. Mathai has been visiting friends in the Holmes County area and has served as the connector between believers here in Ohio and believers in India. Mathai will hold the India Evangelical Mission’s annual fellowship dinner on Sept. 9 at the Carlisle Inn, Walnut Creek, at 6:15 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The dinner will feature a keynote speech from Paul Kurtz, international evangelist from New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. Kurtz has preached the gospel in numerous countries around the world “It’s still an open door. There’s a hunger for the truth. There’s a hunger for something that satisfies, and nothing satisfies apart from Jesus Christ. Nothing,” Kurtz said when asked how he feels about India today. Pastor Joe Mullet of Sugarcreek and his wife, Ina, have traveled to India and seen firsthand how lives have been changed through Mathai’s ministry. Mullet has taught in the church and Bible college at India Evangelical Mission’s base in Kerala State of South India and among church members in the metropolitan city of Mumbai in the north. “It’s encouraging to see that the work of Dr. G.V. Mathai in India is not just a feeding program, but spreading the message of Jesus Christ,” Mullet said. In addition the event will include singing by Shalom Ensemble from the Walhonding area and Dayan Mathai. The adult-oriented dinner is free and open to the public. There will be opportunity given at the dinner to financially contribute to the work of India Evangelical Mission in India and purchase Mathai’s new biography. For reservations RSVP no later than Sept. 6 to Sam and Mary Hershberger at 330-231-5092, Eddie and Irene Hochstetler at 330-674-1485, or Mel or Amanda Mullet at 330-852-2294. The Carlisle Inn is located at 4949 Walnut St., Walnut Creek.
