Michael Tesh, his wife, Cecilia, and daughter, Blessing, will be in several Ohio Moravian churches during their furlough to the U.S., sharing information about their Ray of Hope Village ministry in Kenya. Michael Tesh lived in Winston-Salem most of his life. He is a member of Christ Moravian Church. He worked as a volunteer at NC Baptist Hospital, spending a lot of his time (600 hours) working in the day care. He became interested in mission work as a member of the senior high youth fellowship at his church. After several mission work trips to help poor areas rebuild or repair homes in the U.S., he felt closer to God and felt the Lord calling him to mission work. After discipleship training school and a lot of intensive Bible studies, Michael Tesh began school of ministry development and trained in Nairobi, Kenya. There he worked in orphanages and knew this was where God was calling him to go. He came back home and began to pray and plan to go to Africa. God answered his prayers, and Michael went to Nairobi in February 2003 to begin his ministry in the Athi River Youth With A Mission (WYAM) base. Ray of Hope Village is located in Makwangani, Shimba Hills, south of Mombasa, Kenya. The ministry’s vision is to reach, disciple and serve needy children and orphans on the Kenyan coast. Michael Tesh said, “God has blessed us. Our ministry is growing by leaps and bounds. We now have 25 children living at Ray of Hope. We also operate a preschool for the children in the community. We have 65 children enrolled. Our ministry is still growing, and we intend to be there as long as God will provide.” On Sunday, March 14, Michael Tesh will deliver a sermon at both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 Sunday worship services at Dover First Moravian Church, 319 N. Walnut Street. He will also be presenting information about Ray of Hope Village following a potluck dinner in the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church, 2200 East High Ave., New Philadelphia, beginning at 5 p.m. For more information on short-term mission work in Kenya, including several work teams that are being planned for July 2010, call Mary Burkhart, regional volunteer coordinator, at 330-878-7457, or the Dover First Moravian Church office at 330-364-8831.
