Michel to give jazz performance at Shanesville Lutheran Church

                        
Rick Michel will play 20-30 minutes of jazz for kids at the Shanesville Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 28, after the Junior Fortnightly program, which begins at 3 p.m. Michel has performed an extensive variety of music in his 45 plus years as a professional musician – from solo to big band, church to nightclub. As a U.S. Navy musician he toured with a 19-piece show band in the Philippines, Japan and Hong Kong; and as a member of a touring rhythm section, he performed with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees including The Coasters, The Drifters and The Tokens. Rick served as musical director and keyboard player for several Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County productions and played keyboard for Tuscarawas Philharmonic’s Country Roads concert. He has entertained for countless private parties in addition to performing at many area clubs and restaurants, including The Desert Inn in Canton where he now plays several times a month. He is the organist/pianist/choir director at the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia and gives private piano lessons. He also accompanies the Dover Middle School sixth-grade chorus. He is a member of the Canton Federation of Musicians. Rick and his wife, Jeannie, a member of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Chorus, live in Dover with Barney and Baxter, their Pembroke Welsh Corgis, who also enjoy music.
