Rural churches celebrate Lent
Six rural congregations spanning three counties are coming together Sunday evenings to celebrate the Christian season of Lent. The series, “Living Lent: the Animals of Lent” will be the focus of liturgy, music, and drama. Four pastors serving these congregations will be leading the events. All services begin at 7 p.m. and refreshments will follow. The sites for the services will be:Ÿ Sunday, Feb. 28: Pastor Layton Broome will share how the donkey tells of a peaceful Savior at Mohicanville Community Church.
Ÿ Sunday, March 7: Pastor John Furno will share how the dove tells of an angry Savior at Lakeville United Methodist Church in Holmes County.
Ÿ Sunday, March 14: Pastor Dan Truax will share how the camel tells of a warning Savior at Fairview United Methodist Church in Wayne County.
Ÿ Sunday, March 21: Pastor Diane McCartney will share how the hen tells of a grieving Savior at St. John Lutheran Church in Ashland County.
There will be an offering at each service that will be directed to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) targeted to assist those in Haiti. Matching funds for any gifts received will be sought from the Wayne-Holmes County chapter of Thrivent Financial Services for Lutherans. All are welcome.
