Elizabeth “Beth” Johnson has been named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) in recognition of her commitment to serving the world community. Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization, with more than 1.35 million members. Named for the founder of Lions Clubs International, Melvin Jones, the fellowship is the foundation’s highest honor. The award is given in recognition of commitment to humanitarian service. Johnson, a member of the Clayland Lions Club since 1999, recently received a plaque and lapel pin acknowledging her dedication to the foundation’s humanitarian goals. She has served as club president, zone chair and currently serves District 13G as 2nd Vice District Governor. Johnson is the principal at Claymont City School District’s Eastport Elementary School. As a Melvin Jones Fellow, Johnson becomes a part of the growing network of individuals who are committed to improving the quality of life for people locally and in communities around the world. Other current Clayland Lions who have been honored as Melvin Jones Fellows include: Rob Murry, Rex Hostettler, Don Wright, Bill McGinnis, Tom Edwards, Tom Wolfe, Dr. Dan Peck, Gary Pittis and R.K. Lindsey IV. The Clayland Lions Club has 38 members and currently meets on the first Wednesday of the month, at 6 p.m., at Trax Diner in Dennison and the third Wednesday, at 6 p.m., at Chef Ernie’s Restaurant in Uhrichsville.
