The Holmes County Humane Society (HCHS) held an open meeting on Nov. 10 to elect board members. Those eligible to vote were paying members. Five current board members will continue with either a one-year or two-year term. Those individuals are: Anne Kochera, president (one year); Jennifer Troyer, vice president (two years); Shelley Patterson, treasurer (one year); Brian Sommers (two years); and Cheryl Shaver (two years). There were also three new members to join the board: Fran Middlesworth, secretary (two years); John Troyer (two years) and Jolene Taggart (two years). During this meeting, the HCHS also planned two upcoming events: Home for the Holidays Tour with Every Women’s House, Dec. 1–4, at The Cary House in Millersburg, where the HCHS will decorate a room. Also, Dec. 10 at Tractor Supply Company in Millersburg, the HCHS will have an area set up where people can bring their pets in to have pictures taken with Santa. The HCHS is dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of animals through public education, providing second chances for unwanted and/or abused animals, and enforcing animal protection laws in collaboration with state, county and local authorities. The HCHS meets on the second Thursday of each month.
