The Ohio State Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County has been named the Ohio State University Alumni Association’s 2024 Club of the Year.

“This award is given to one club who exemplifies the mission of the Ohio State University Alumni Association and university as a whole, with volunteer efforts that exceed expectations and excel in all areas,” said Molly Ranz-Calhoun, president/CEO of the OSUAA.

President Martha Campbell was notified at the OSU-Akron football game when she met with Ranz-Calhoun prior to the game. Ranz-Calhoun told Campbell she had a surprise for her and shared the news with her about the Ohio State Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County’s award.

“I was so surprised, honored and humbled all at the same time,” Campbell said. “I told her that we have an amazing group of people who participate and volunteer to make all of our programs successful. It is exciting for us to be selected for this award amongst the hundreds of OSU alumni clubs from across the world. We were also excited that one of our programs, Destress & Reset, was named an Outstanding Program of 2024.”

The Destress & Reset program provided a video from a yoga instructor showing ways to destress and reset your body by performing movements while sitting in your chair. By providing the video, members were able to do this in the leisure of their own home and at a time convenient to their schedule. The club also invited other clubs in Northern Ohio to join this event, allowing 125 OSU alumni and friends to participate.

OSU Tusc also was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni Club of 2024 for achieving the Scarlet Level, which is achieved when a specific number of events and programs are made available to the club’s members.

The award was presented at the OSUAA Leadership Symposium on Sept. 6 at the Fawcett Center on the campus of the Ohio State University. Campbell and OSU Tusc scholarship chair Connie Shaw received the award from Ranz-Calhoun. The award also comes with a $1,000 award to help the efforts of OSU Tusc.

Campbell said she felt an additional sense of pride as the 2024 Alumni Society of the Year was the Stadium Scholarship Alumni Society, another organization she has been active with. The SSAS is made up of alumni who have been a part of the Stadium Scholars Program, which, when Campbell attended Ohio State, was a dorm located under the bleachers on the west side of Ohio Stadium.

“My two years living in the stadium dorm were some of my most memorable moments at Ohio State,” Campbell said. “I have enjoyed helping to plan and participate in the SSAS events.”

Societies differ from alumni clubs because they represent organizations and/or programs that still exist at the Ohio State University.
