Not your average baker, Michael Lehr, owner of Flat Top Bakery in New Philadelphia, became interested in baking due to a challenge made by his high school football coach. If he and his teammates signed up for a baking class, they wouldn’t have to run an extra mile during practice. So, the rest is history. Inspired by the authenticity of traditional Old World baking, Lehr takes pride in the fact that his baked goods contain all natural ingredients. Joining the artisan baker, during the November program for the Tuscarawas County Art Guild, was John Drubel of Drubel Artistic Endeavors, LLC, located in the Old House Inn, which also houses the bakery. A very versatile and talented artist, Drubel studied painting, drawing, photography and ceramics at the Muskingum College in New Concord, where he graduated with a degree in art/education. He is presently acquiring an online fine arts degree in painting and drawing. President, Marcie Dryden, of Tuscarawas, announced the Artists’ Reception for the Art Guild’s Fall and Winter Show at the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. She also noted the Guild’s Christmas party will be at the Bistro 131, in New Philadelphia, on Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. Each member is to bring a handmade Christmas ornament to exchange. Members need to contact Karen Thorton by Dec. 7 if they are planning to attend. The People’s Choice awards from the recent New Towne Mall show, were presented to Charlie Graham of New Philadelphia; and, Levi Keim of Beach City. Harley Sefert, of New Philadelphia, conducted the election of officers for the coming year. President for 2012 will be incumbent Marcie Dryden; vice president will be Jim Maullar, of Dover; secretary will be Jane Gartrell; and treasurer, Bill Boose, both of New Philadelphia. Committee chairmen will be appointed by the president at the next executive board meeting. Refreshments were served by Olga Piorkowska and Sheryl Arnold, both of New Philadelphia. The organization is open to all visual artists and photographers of any skill level, working in any medium. For more information, contact Jane Gartrell at 330-364-3938 or P.O. Box 463, New Philadelphia 44663.
